Your company or Brands facebook page has thousands of fans and it is increasing day by day. You may be spending a considerable time and money for it. That’s great. Social Media Marketing is the talk of the town these days and you are on it. You may be posting content to your page couple of times per day or couple of times per month assuming that all your fans who liked the page will see it.

Does this sound familiar! Then continue reading...

Did you know that many facebook pages do not have the reach expected and your fans do not even see a single post which you posted?

Getting your brand visibility in the news feeds of your target audience is the ultimate achievement for social marketers. This is one of the most important, and often elusive, goals in a brand’s social strategy. It can be especially difficult on Facebook, a platform that has an elaborate and constantly evolving algorithm designed to serve audiences the most relevant content.

How to find who is really engaging with your Facebook page?

Fortunately facebook has given the opportunity for page admins to see the details of what is happening to their efforts.

Once you are logged in to facebook (If you are an admin for the page) you will see a link on the top left side of your page called “INSIGHTS" Click on it and you will find out a load of valuable data on it.

Facebook Page Insights & Statistics

The most effective way to measure the impact of your facebooks performance is by clicking  the number which shows how many fans who have liked your page which is shown just below the profile picture (You can even do this to spy on how your competitor is performing on Facebook. You need not have admin rights for this)

Here you will find the number of "People Talking About This", "Total Page Likes" & "New Page Likes" in a graph which shows how the page performed

Facebook Page Likes

The following formula will give you a quantifiable measure to know what's happening.

News Feed Reach Ratio =  People Talking About This / Total Page Likes

Even though the above ratio will give you a rough idea about what's happening and what your competitors are doing, Facebook has a secret algorithm in place to do the job of making posts from different sources appear on ones news feed.

In Facebooks point of view the goal of News Feed is to deliver the right content to the right people at the right time so they don’t miss the stories that are important to them. Ideally, Facebook wants News Feed to show all the posts people want to see in the order they want to read them.

This is no small technical feat: every time someone visits News Feed there are on average 1,500 potential stories from friends, people they follow and Pages for them to see, and most people don’t have enough time to see them all. These stories include everything from wedding photos posted by a best friend, to an acquaintance checking in to a restaurant.

With so many stories, there is a good chance people would miss something they wanted to see if Facebook displayed a continuous, unranked stream of information. Facebooks ranking isn’t perfect, but in its tests, when they stop ranking and instead show posts in chronological order, the number of stories people read and the likes and comments they make decrease.

Do you personally like to see unwanted messages on your news feed when you log in to facebook? The Facebook way of dealing with this in getting the most interested content appear on your news feed could be the reason why you are not getting the expected reach on Facebook.

Boosting your post with Facebook Sponsored ad may look like the ideal solution. But it may not be the best solution for many. Don't worry let's discuss more on how to get a wider reach from Facebook on my next post.
